Your own domain and HTTPS
Every app gets a default address. You can also use a name you own, like app.yourcompany.com, and 1ClickOps sets up the security certificate for it.
Add the domain
These steps are for a server with a public IP address. If your app is served through a secure tunnel, jump to the last section.
- Open your app, then Web address. In Your Own Domain, type the name and press Save. Type the name only: no http:// in front and nothing after it.
- If the name does not point at your server, the card shows the record to create.
- Create that record where your domain is managed, usually the company you bought it from.
- Come back and press Check again. A change can take a few minutes to spread across the internet.
The record, exactly
- Type: A.
- Name: the domain you typed, for example app.yourcompany.com. Many providers want only the first part, “app”.
- Points to: your server’s public IP address, as shown on the card.
If your provider offers to route the record through its own network, sometimes called “proxy”, switch that off.
What happens next
When the name points at your server, the card says “Setting up…”. Your server asks Let’s Encrypt for a security certificate. This usually takes under a minute. The card then says “Live” and links to your https address. It is renewed automatically.
If it does not work
- Waiting for DNS: the record is missing, or the name points somewhere else. The message says which.
- Needs attention: the certificate could not be made. Check the record, then save the domain again.
- Your server must be reachable on the web ports, 80 and 443. If your hosting provider has its own firewall, allow both there.
- One domain goes to one app. A domain already used by another app is refused.
If your app is served through a secure tunnel
- Type the full address, such as www.yourshop.com, and press Continue. A bare name like yourshop.com usually cannot be used, so the card offers the www version.
- The card names the company that manages your domain, links to it, and shows one record to add. Each box has a Copy button.
- Not the person who manages the domain? Press Email these steps to whoever manages my domain.
- The card keeps checking. It can take a few minutes, sometimes up to an hour. When it says Live, your address works with the padlock.
Remove takes the address off the app. Only a workspace admin can do that.
